+Q&A

Wide skies, wild water and nowhere to hide.

Seven films take their feelings outdoors. A father and his estranged daughter climb the mountain her late mother loved. A trans gardener finds belonging in the language of plants, and a trans artist offers a hopeful, poetic answer to bleak narratives. Childhood friends hunt a treasure unfound for 29 years, dancers echo the murmurations of winter birds, a woman rock pooling with her children slips into a surreal, dissociative world, and two mismatched students stand in the seagrass long enough to find a friendship.

From Welsh summits to Somerset fields and the pebbled south coast, these films let the land do the confessing.

Runtime: 69 mins

There will be a short Q&A after the screening.

PARADISE

PARADISE, 2025 (5 mins)

Director: Iso Attrill

Paradise is a short poetic documentary about trans/non-binary artist and gardener Mol Benge. Through their horticultural work, Mol has cultivated an intimate, lyrical relationship with the natural world, one that becomes both a salve and a compass in their exploration of gender identity.

THE GOLDEN SQUACCO HERON

THE GOLDEN SQUACCO HERON, 2025 (6 mins) [local film]

Director: Edward Smyth

Two childhood friends search for the fabled Golden Squacco Heron, the reward to a treasure hunt unsolved for 29 years. As their treasure proves elusive, they make up their own games, to pass the time… Featuring Tatiana Delaunay and Adam Paroussos.

YR WYDDFA

YR WYDDFA, 2026 (16 mins)

Director: Sander Blom

Dave (60) and Sara (25) meet early in the morning at the foot of the Yr Wyddfa climb. Dave tries to strike up a conversation with his daughter, but it’s clear Sara isn’t interested. She blames her father for never being interested in her life.

CRAB SANDWICH

CRAB SANDWICH, 2026 (18 mins) [local film]

Director: Dylan Edwards & Natasha O’Keeffe

While rock pooling with her children, a passing stranger jolts a woman into a surreal dissociative world. In a seaside café suspended between memory and reality, she confronts the man who stole something from her thirty years earlier.

TRANSCENDENCE

TRANSCENDENCE, 2025 (5 mins) [local film]

Director: Sharon Burrell

TRANSCENDENCE is a short, experimental film originally created for Folkestone Documentary Festival. It conveys a positive lived experience of being trans, as a counterpoint to the overwhelmingly negative narratives in the current discourse.

BIRD

BIRD, 2025 (4 mins)

Director: Lilith Piper & Joya Berrow

Co-directors Lilith Piper and Joya Berrow explore the ritual and instinct of birds through human movement. Shot over winter in Somerset and Dorset on 16mm black and white, a small flock of dancers echo the shapes of murmuration, migration, and wintering.

GREEN GRASS

GREEN GRASS, 2026 (17 mins)

Director: Aram Atkinson

Declan is a disengaged biology student who cares more about drawing than his degree. Out of options, he is forced to work with the new girl, Claire, a proud and ambitious Deaf eco-activist. Their different attitudes quickly bubble to the surface on the mudflats of the south English coast.
