In this film, director, writer, and actor Elia Suleiman portrays a version of himself, drawing comparisons to modern-day Jacques Tati with a touch of Buster Keaton’s silent charm.
This time, Suleiman’s character embarks on a journey from his hometown of Nazareth in search of a sense of belonging. His first stop is the charming streets of Paris, where he hopes to promote his film, but his efforts are met with subtle resistance. Next, he heads to the chaotic city of New York, where he reconnects with his friend, actor and producer Gael García Bernal. Despite Bernal’s willingness to help, Suleiman finds that his work is not deemed “Palestinian enough.”
In the face of the absurdity that life throws at him, Suleiman can only watch in quiet bewilderment, as if saying that sometimes, the best response to the world’s contradictions is silent observation.
