How to Have Sex is a 2023 coming-of-age drama that marks Molly Manning Walker’s directorial debut. The film follows three British teenage girls—Tara, Em, and Skye—on a party-fueled vacation to Malia, Greece. What begins as a carefree trip filled with wild nights and high expectations of romance gradually exposes the deeper emotional complexities surrounding sex, consent, and personal boundaries. As Tara navigates her first sexual experience, the film explores the gap between the pressure to fit in and the reality of intimate encounters, challenging expectations and raising critical questions about consent and self-discovery.
The film earned critical acclaim for its raw and nuanced portrayal of adolescence, winning the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. It captures the tension between youthful exuberance and the darker, more difficult truths that come with growing up, resonating with both teen and adult audiences.
Trigger Warning: This film deals boldly but thoughtfully with matters of consent and sexual violence, which some viewers may find distressing. Feel free to contact us for more information.
