Dust off your top hat and warm up your vocal cords for a singalong screening of Baz Luhrmann’s dazzling jukebox musical, accompanied by Margate Social Singing Choir and your enigmatic host for the evening, Amber Topaz.
It was 1899 – the summer of love. A penniless poet, Christian (Ewan McGregor), falls in love with an enchanting courtesan, Satine (Nicole Kidman) at a debaucherous Parisian nightclub, the Moulin Rouge. Threatened by a jealous Duke (Richard Roxburgh) who covets Satine’s affections, the star-crossed lovers are forced to hide their romance in thinly-veiled musical numbers. Swirling in power ballad love medleys and eccentric renditions of pop anthems, Baz Luhrmann’s jukebox musical is, in the words of Harold Zidler, “a magnificent, opulent, tremendous, stupendous, gargantuan, bedazzlement…a sensual ravishment.”
Fancy dress and singing encouraged!
